A fair go for all Australians

If 1 in 10 Australians struggle to make ends meet, is Australia Fair?

Australia Fair is an initiative developed by the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) aimed at promoting fairness in public policy decision-making and supported by ANF as an ACOSS member.

Australian Fair focuses on 10 things Australians have identified as necessary to make Australia Fair: Fair health, fair work, fair education, fair environment, fair community, fair housing, fair reconciliation, fair rights, fair services, and fair welfare.

As outlined in the Australia Fair report A fair go for all Australians - International Comparisons 2007 the number of Australians living in poverty has increased over the past 10 years.

There are also many other areas in which we rank poorly across each of the 10 essentials to make Australia fair, for example the gap of life expectancy between Indigenous Australians and the rest of the community, the cost of owning or renting a house or visiting a dentist.

It is time for all political parties in Australia to support a national action plan to reduce poverty and disadvantage.
