The Australian Nursing Federation (ANF) and the Australian College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP) are supportive of the legislation detailing collaborative arrangements for nurse practitioners which will allow these highly educated and experienced health professionals to continue to provide optimum care to their patients.
ANF federal secretary, Lee Thomas said the ANF and the ACNP, along with a number of other peak nursing groups negotiated the best possible outcome in terms of collaborative arrangements.
“We are fortunate that the Minister has listened to the proposals of nursing groups and in the determination has reached an agreeable balance,” she said.
“Collaboration is a two-way street that requires mutual trust, respect and team work among doctors, nurse practitioners and other health professionals to provide the best outcomes for patients.”
Helen Gosby, ACNP President said, “The determination provides for a range of ways that nurse practitioners can demonstrate collaborative arrangements so that this health reform can achieve what it set out to do, to allow patients to access funding for the care provided by nurse practitioners.”
The ANF along with ACNP will monitor the progress of these collaborative arrangements and consider further negotiations if necessary.
