Workplace Health and Safety
Nurses are entitled to a healthy and safe workplace and to compensation and rehabilitation if they are injured at work. The ANF expects employers to ensure the health and safety of their employees at work and calls on all governments to enact and enforce laws providing for the highest standards of workplace safety.

International Nurses
International nurses, whether on temporary or permanent visas, have the same entitlement to basic entitlements, rights and protections as Australian nurses.
Paid Parental Leave
Australia’s first national Paid Parental Leave scheme commenced on 1 January 2011. The scheme is funded by the Australian Government.
Parents who are planning to have or adopt a child need to be aware of the scheme and consider how decisions they make about the work they do before the birth or adoption could affect their eligibility for the scheme.

Fight Dementia Campaign
There are currently 269,000 Australians living with dementia. The number of people with the disease is set to increase by almost 50% over the next 10 years. By 2050 almost one million Australians will have dementia. The aim of Alzheimer’s Australia Fight Dementia Campaign is to get recognition of dementia as a health priority in the 2012 Federal Budget.
