How will a price on carbon affect your cost of living?
How will a price on carbon affect your cost of living? Add the numbers up for yourself with a new online calculator.
Consumer advocate CHOICE, the Australian Council of Social Service and The Climate Institute have teamed up to look at the cost of living impacts of the carbon price. With the carbon price now law you can go to the website – yourcarbonprice.com.au – and use the online calculator to weigh up your own costs, the financial support you will receive from the government and the potential savings you can make from energy efficiency measures.
The research shows Australia’s carbon pollution price will add just 0.6% to inflation in 2012-2013. That’s the equivalent to 6 cents on every $10.00 spent. But once you factor in government assistance, those weekly costs are largely covered and most people end up with money in their pockets. Energy efficiency can put households even further ahead.
