There is a lot ANF members can celebrate. The Fair Work Act 2009 officially brings a welcome end to WorkChoices.

Nurses, assistants in nursing and midwives can also feel confident knowing that they remain under an occupational award. As part of the Award Modernisation process the Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC) was convinced, largely by the ANF, and its members who signed a petition, to retain nursing as an occupational award. This decision continues the principle that nursing is based on skill and educational qualifications rather than the employment setting.

Together we all fought long and hard to make sure your rights at work are protected and under an occupational award and the new legislation the ANF is confident they will be.

Thank you to all those members who showed just how much can be done together in unity!

The current financial crisis and recession means that union membership is even more important. The ANF thinks that the new laws will enable unions to gain improved wages and conditions for workers and protect their jobs in an uncertain economic environment, but we will not become complacent.
