The Australian Nursing Federation was commissioned by the Australian Government to carry out a research study into the use of information technology by nurses in Australia. The research was conducted by a project team from the University of Southern Queensland. The objectives of the study were to:
- identify the extent to which nurses have access to and use information technology and information management systems;
- identify the purposes for which nurses use information technology and information management systems;
- identify the readiness of nurses to participate in e-health initiatives such as HealthConnect (including MediConnect);
